Acquiring Permanent Residence Status

To acquire permanent residence status in Armenia, a foreign national or their authorized representative shall apply in person at the Migration and Citizenship Service office located at 14 Tairov Street, after booking an appointment in advance.

After submitting the application for permanent residence status, the foreign national receives a supporting document – the permanent residence card – which is issued for a period of 5 years with the possibility of extension.

The service may be accessed either in person by scheduling an appointment in advance.

When booking an appointment, it is necessary to indicate the details of the person for whom the residence status application will be submitted. An individual appointment shall be booked for each applicant, regardless of age.

To make an online appointment, it is necessary to:

  • enter the migration.e-gov.am platform, select the "Applying for residence status" section, and book a visit
  • after identification, fill in the required data in the “Applicant’s page” (as written in the passport) and click the “Next page” button
  • in the “Visit location” field of the following page, select the office located at 14 Tairov Street
  • in the “Additional visitors” field, fill in the data of accompanying persons (e.g., parents of a child)
  • in the “Visit date and time” section, select the most convenient option from the available dates and times and confirm the booking

Requirements

To acquire permanent residence status in Armenia, a foreign national shall justify that:

  • he or she a spouse or a close relative (parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild) who is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia or holds special residence status, has secured housing and means of subsistence in Armenia, and has resided in the Republic of Armenia for at least three years prior to applying for permanent residence status,
  • he or she is of Armenian origin,
  • he or she is engaged in entrepreneurial activity in Armenia.

Required documents

 To acquire permanent residence status, one shall submit:

  • application form (completed on site)
  • three (colored) photos measuring 35 mm x 45 mm,
  • passport, a copy of the passport, and a notarized Armenian translation of the passport
  • documents substantiating the grounds for acquiring (or extending) residence status in the Republic of Armenia
  • birth certificate, copies of parents’ passports, and a copy of the parents’ marriage certificate
  • medical certificate
  • document attesting the payment of relevant state duty.

Service fee and Payment procedure

To acquire temporary residence status, a fee of AMD 140,000 shall be paid. Payment can be made on site via POS terminal, online, or at any bank by transferring the amount to the following treasury account: 900005162111100.

Temporary residence status is granted free of charge to the following persons:

  • minors (persons under 18 years of age)
  • close relatives of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia (spouse, child, father, mother, sister, brother)
  • foreign students, teaching staff, and lecturers studying or working at educational institutions in Armenia
  • persons arriving in Armenia to provide humanitarian or technical assistance
  • foreign specialists and their family members invited to work by the President, the National Assembly, or the Government of Armenia
  • persons entering Armenia with diplomatic passports, as well as staff of foreign diplomatic missions and consular institutions in Armenia and their family members
  • officials and members of delegations visiting Armenia upon invitation of the President, Speaker of the National Assembly, President of the Constitutional Court, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, or the Human Rights Defender of Armenia
  • foreign citizens of Armenian descent residing permanently in a foreign country where a state of emergency endangering life or health has been declared
  • close relatives of a person who has been granted refugee status and is arriving in Armenia

Processing time and procedure

A residence card is issued within 30 days after the application is submitted. In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On Fundamentals of Administrative Action and Administrative Proceedings,” the period may be extended for an additional 30 days.
To receive the residence card, it is necessary to visit the Unified Office for Public Services located at 3 Vazgen Sargsyan Street (Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00, lunch break 14:00–15:00).

Note

The decision on the extension of the residence status proceedings or the decision to reject the application for acquiring residence status is sent to the applicant by postal delivery.
