Acquiring Special Residence Status

The special passport is issued for a validity period of 10 years, with the possibility of extension.

To acquire a special passport in Armenia, the individual or their authorized representative shall personally apply to the Migration and Citizenship Service office located at 14 Tairyan Street, after booking an appointment in advance.

The service may be accessed either in person by scheduling an appointment in advance.

When booking an appointment, it is necessary to indicate the details of the person for whom the residence status application will be submitted. An individual appointment shall be booked for each applicant, regardless of age.

To make an online appointment, it is necessary to:

  • enter the migration.e-gov.am platform, select the "Applying for residence status" section, and book a visit
  • after identification, fill in the required data in the “Applicant’s page” (as written in the passport) and click the “Next page” button
  • in the “Visit location” field of the following page, select the office located at 14 Tairov Street
  • in the “Additional visitors” field, fill in the data of accompanying persons (e.g., parents of a child)
  • in the “Visit date and time” section, select the most convenient option from the available dates and times and confirm the booking

Requirements

Special residence status shall be granted to: 

  • foreigners having Armenian national origin.
  • other foreigners carrying out economic or cultural activities in the Republic of Armenia.

 Required documents

To acquire special residence status in the Republic of Armenia, the following documents shall be submitted along with the application:

  • a completed application form for acquiring special residence status in Armenia, in accordance with Form No. 2
  • a document confirming legal residence in Armenia, such as an RA entry visa, residence card, RA special passport, or, for citizens of visa-exempt countries, the entry stamp in a valid travel document made by border control authorities (applicable only when applying for the service)
  • a document certifying Armenian origin, as defined in subpoint 8 of point 1 of Annex No. 2 of RA Government Decision No. 1390-N of November 23, 2007 (only for persons of Armenian descent)
  • a document justifying the implementation of economic or cultural activity in Armenia (only for non-Armenian nationals)
  • a passport or travel document and its notarized Armenian translation, as well as a document confirming the right of residence in Armenia (if available)
  • six photos (colored) measuring 35 mm x 45 mm;
  • document attesting the payment of relevant state duty.

Required additional documents

  • birth certificate, copies of the parents’ passports, and a copy of the parents’ marriage certificate

In case of applying through an authorized representative, the following shall also be submitted:

  • a power of attorney and the authorized representative’s passport

Service fee and Payment procedure

To acquire special residence status, a state duty of 150,000 AMD shall be paid.
Payment can be made on-site via POS terminal, online, or through any bank by transferring to the treasury account number 900005162111100.

Note

A special passport is issued free of charge to children under 16 of a foreign national holding special residence status.

According to Article 31 of the Law on State Duty, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia may grant an exemption from the state duty for granting special residence status.

Processing time and procedure

The special passport is issued within 2 months after submission of the application. Applicants are notified about the status of their application via SMS.

To receive the special passport, one shall visit the Unified Office for Public Services at 3 Vazgen Sargsyan Street (Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00, lunch break 14:00–15:00).
